Catalan Tapas Bar is a family-owned and operated business born out of the pandemic (they opened in December of 2020) that cranks out some of the most mouthwatering tapas in the Triangle. Everything—from the small plates and charcuterie to the cocktails and desserts—is made using fresh, local ingredients with Spanish, Latin American, and Asian influences.
Partner Chris Simmon, a sommelier, has cultivated one of the most inclusive by-the-glass lists with over 40 offerings sure to surprise and delight. The restaurant is run by managing partner Jennifer Cramer, a bar veteran of over 20 years, who has curated an impressive bourbon selection and designed a craft cocktail menu full of innovative libations all made with fresh juices, herbs, and premium liquors. They also offer non-alcoholic mocktail versions of many of their cocktails.
The kitchen is run by Jorge Dominguez Jr., a seasoned chef mentored by graduates of Johson & Wales and CIA with well-rounded culinary skills who knows how to bring flavors together to make your tastebuds sing! We’ve been told his Ropa Vieja is the best in the world (seriously), and a more valuable compliment – his Pernil is better than Abuela’s (if you know, you know).
Where Catalan shines, though, is with their team-service model. All of their front-of-house staff works collaboratively to ensure guest satisfaction and service perfection.
If you find your jaw hitting the ground as soon as you step inside this beautiful space, you’re not alone. The owner had help from her sister—a veteran Broadway set designer—to create an incredible ambiance, so it’s no surprise that the interior is show-stoppingly gorgeous.
Catalan is a proud member of the Harmony NC LGBT+ Allied Chamber of Commerce and is a safe space for all humans. Their charity efforts include raising funds for the LGBT Center of Raleigh, Friends of Wake County Animal Center, and their yearly Be An Angel Campaign run with The Successful Business Women that brings holiday gifts to hundreds of less fortunate children, seniors, and veterans each holiday season.
